Watching Cars for the millionth time, because my 3 year old is obsessed. It occurred to me that this movie is old enough that our younger members may have done the same as kids.

People like to shit on that movie, but it was a pretty great movie.
Also Cars is 11 years old.

I mean, it’s certainly not as great as most Pixar movies, but it’s still a lot of fun. Well, granted you’re not listening to it on a nearly endless loop.

I when F&F came out I was too young to watch it.
Ps. I watched it anyway because big brothers are awesome.

Is it wrong that I watched it when it came out. I was 26 and had no kids.

Pixar movies know no age boundaries. I bought a copy of finding Dory for my wife for Christmas. Yes, my wife. Not my child. It was one of the things on her list.

This provides the perfect opportunity to share a story about this movie.
When I was younger, I had a very close friend. He was interested in cars, monster trucks, and all that. I was interested in cars as well, and since he lived in my neighborhood, we would go to each others’ houses a lot and play with our cars. Cars came out when we were friends, and he loved that movie. In fact, he had a shirt for it that said “The Fastest Ride in Radiator Springs: Lightning McQueen”. For my birthday in 2006, he got me the exact same shirt. It was a red shirt in youth Medium; red was my favorite color back then. Though I wasn’t as into the movie as he was, I loved that shirt, and I wore it all the time; he did as well.
Unfortunately, after that school year ended in May 2007, my friend’s dad got transferred and he moved away. He was one of my best friends at a time in my life a close friend was needed. That fall, he came by and visited me while his family was up here doing something, but I never saw him again; my mom used to keep in touch with his mom, but I think they last called each other in 2009 or so. He had a common name, and I do, too, so my attempts to find him on social media have been impossible.
I still have the shirt in remembrance of him.

I was 8 when it came out, and I can confirm that I was obsessed. I still have all of the diecast cars from the first year or so of the movie’s diecast line.

It’s better than watching the spinoff Planes fire and rescue 4 times in a row in the back seat of a RX350. Never again.

For car guys it’s better than most other animated films we have to watch with the little ones... I think they did a great job with them and set the bar very high, even for Pixar. It’s unusual how they dig in and explain a bit about how the interstate highways killed off a lot of the small towns in that part of the US - it’s a bit like a route 66 homage and really hits home for a lot of people who left those areas in the mid/southwest/dustbowl parts of the country as travelers were taken away by the interstate routes and at the same time the massive increase in air travel.
